The local project
CreekKeeper has supported cleanup in the Johns Creek headwaters area since 1998. The project area described on the original site follows the creek from the Vaughn Lake vicinity near Brookwood Road toward McGinnis Ferry Road.
The creek runs behind residential areas, and much of it may be on private property. Cleanup participation must respect ownership, access, neighborhood safety, and local requirements.
What to observe
- New litter or illegal dumping.
- Muddy discharges that persist beyond a storm.
- Bank erosion or vegetation removal.
- Unusual color, foam, odor, sheen, dead fish, or distressed wildlife.
- Blocked flow caused by debris—without entering dangerous water.
Build a useful record
Photograph from a safe and lawful location. Note the date, time, weather, exact location, direction of flow, and whether the condition is continuing. Avoid conclusions you cannot verify; clear observations are more useful than guesses.
Access and liability
Never enter another person’s land without permission. Creek work can involve sharp debris, unstable banks, hidden holes, wildlife, contaminated water, and rapidly changing flow. Use the cleanup guide and choose safety over removal.
